International Friendship Day 2018 – Celebrating the ASEAN Community

On 6 April (Friday), we commemorated International Friendship Day (IFD). The theme for this year’s IFD was ‘Celebrating the ASEAN Community’. Achieving the milestone beyond ASEAN’s 50th anniversary, we celebrated our shared successes and the growth and resilience of the ASEAN people in our journey thus far. Through greater openness and mutual inter-dependence, we hope to inspire our young to play an active role in fostering economic and people-to-people ties, reinforcing our sense of togetherness and strengthening our ASEAN identity.

A series of exciting activities were lined up for students to deepen their understanding of the relations that we share with other countries:

1. An assembly talk was conducted during IFD week to help students understand the importance of Singapore having a harmonious relationship with the ASEAN countries and to appreciate the different nationalities and cultures.

2. The main event was the IFD carnival organised by the Kellock Parents Support Group, where students had an opportunity to learn more about the culture of ASEAN and other countries. Many students and teachers came dressed in traditional costumes of countries around the world showing their support and strong believe in International Friendship Day.

Founder’s Day

Founder’s Day celebration will take place on Thursday, 24 May 2018. On this day, we remember the founder of all the IJ schools, Blessed Nicholas Barré. The theme for this year’s Founder’s Day celebration will centre round the theme of Gratitude ‘…for all things give thanks’ (1 Thess 5:18). Indeed, we are grateful for our founder, Blessed Nicholas Barré and his strong faith in God’s providence. With his simple faith that God will provide, the IJ community has grown in numbers to provide education for children in need.

Founder’s Day celebration will start with an assembly programme in the beginning of the week where our principal will introduce Blessed Nicholas Barré and the different aspects of his life to our students. On Founder’s Day, students will be able to participate in a specially designed IJ for Life programme. The activities planned will take our students through a journey of discovery of Blessed Barré’s life and his contributions to society. Students will learn to appreciate and be grateful for the gifts that they have and how they themselves could help the needy.
The celebration will come to a high point where the school community come together for the Eucharistic Celebration. As a school, we give thanks to God for guiding Blessed Barré throughout his life and count our blessings for being part of the IJ Family.
